How It Works
The Domain Trust Checker analyzes several public data points to generate a trust score. While not a guarantee of safety, a higher score indicates a more established and transparent domain. Here’s what it looks at:
- Domain Age: One of the strongest trust signals. Websites that have been registered for many years are generally more reliable than brand-new ones.
- SSL Certificate: Checks for a valid SSL certificate (inferred from DNS), which is essential for encrypting data. The absence of SSL is a major red flag.
- WHOIS Data: Looks for publicly available domain registration information. Transparent ownership adds to a domain's credibility.
- DNS Records: Verifies that the domain is properly configured on the internet. A lack of valid records is a strong warning sign.
This tool is designed to help you spot potential red flags before you interact with an unfamiliar website. For a more detailed guide, check out our blog post: How to Quickly Check if a Website is Safe.
